Reflection

I took this photo yesterday morning on 57th street between 5th & 6th ave, like I said before, I've been really inspired by Architecture. This section of the building caught my eye because of this cool reflection.

Studio Inspiration Board

I completely changed my inspiration board tonight on a whim. I think it illustrates my obsession with the past...both nostalgic and historic. How else could you explain Marie Antoinette (as played by Kirsten Dunst), Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, and the Little Mermaid appearing in the same collage? Then again, this board only has to make sense to me. :) Nevertheless, I really love it especially from my view right here at my work table!

Inspire Me Thursday: Watercolor

I sketched this morning in my sketchbook and added water color...my sketchbook isn't a water color journal so I'm sure this would have turned out better had I used watercolor paper. I'm having a love affair of sorts with sunflowers right now, and have been filling my apartment with them, so I guess they inspired me...

Pink is my favorite color, so why shouldn't I wear pink this fall? Here are several reasons why (and how) I should wear the hue:

so long sweet summer journal pages

I just had my last big summer bash out in the Hamptons this past weekend. Back in the city I had time to reflect on the fall collections and iron out the details of my fall wardrobe prospects. To further complicate matters, the focus is on fashion week, so my mind is already in September. Summer is officially over for me, for better or worse. Summer is my favorite season, but I have a sore throat, my mind has wandered into fall territory, so with the exception of a few end of summer sample sales it is highly unlikely that I will be enjoying very much of the end of the season. Scorin cheap(er) designer duds does put a smile on my face, but it isn't enough to bring my summer back to life. Anyway, this is my ode to the vintage beach babe that existed in the era before Baywatch...

One Girl Show/Platinum Blonde Studios featured in the Premier Issue of Artful Blogging!

Artful Blogging is a new quarterly publication produced by Somerset Studio that concentrates on the visually inspiring online blogs & their posts. The first issue of Artful Blogging will be available August 1st. Artful Blogging will be featuring an interview with Melanie Komisarki of Inspire Me Thursday. The article is accompanied by a few Inspire Me Thursday entries including one of my own ink drawings I had submitted to the site for the prompt, "Change of Scenery". My drawing is on the second page of the article on the lower right hand side (it is the black botanical silhouette drawing). Other artists that will be featured in the article include Julia Van Der Werf, Deborah Gorr, Bridgette Guerzon Mills, Pilar Isabel Pollock, and Lise Richards.

Pick up your copy of Artful Blogging on August 1st, for more amazing works & interview from bloggers & artists around the web! Find a store near you that will be carrying the publication here (you can also order it online by clicking here). A big thanks to Artful Blogging for featuring my art work!

Bold & Beautiful/Fashion Week Journal Entries

Below are two journal pages I completed tonight. I was cleaning and I found a bunch of old notes, papers, ticket stubs, that I had intended to use in my journal, but never got around to using them. I try to recycle invitations, notes from friends, and other items when creating my pages. My journal itself was a gift, but it is an altered library book using recycled paper & vintage fabric. I hope to carry the recycled/reused element throught the entire journal.

On the right, I used this week's Inspire Me Thursday "Bold & Beautiful" prompt and started to write/ramble much like I am currently doing with this post. I think I should do that more often.

Please keep in mind these entries are meant to be fun, lighthearted, and of course personal. The two pages are no way related to eachother in content, but I placed them next to eachother because I liked the pink/orange color combo. Anyway, here are the pages:

Cool Website: One Word

The idea of the website is simple. The site gives you one word as a creative prompt, and then allows you 60 seconds to write whatever it is that word brings to mind. The instructions are simple: "Don't think, just write". It is a fantastic exercise that can really inspire you...it is great for journaling, sketching, or just jump starting your morning.
